Mr. Van Winkle began his career as an in-house attorney for the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe of Washington. Mr. Van Winkle brought the breadth of experience that comes with in-house work to mctlaw where he continues to advise tribes and tribal commissions, departments, businesses and entities. Mr. Van Winkle has drafted and negotiated a variety of intergovernmental agreements and compacts covering a range of areas which include class III gaming, cannabis, tax issues, and alcohol. He advises clients on a variety of tribal regulatory matters including gaming and cannabis. In addition to his work in economic development, Mr. Van Winkle also litigates on behalf of tribes in Tribal, State, and Federal Court in defense of tribal treaty rights and gaming issues.
