Melissa Smith (Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Birdtown Community) brings more than 25 years of service to the Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission, where she currently serves as Director of Enforcement. Her career has centered on financial and operational oversight to support effective regulation, with a particular focus on safeguarding tribal assets and strengthening long-term institutional stability.
Melissa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Montreat College and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. She is recognized for her steady leadership and strong financial acumen, grounded in a disciplined and thoughtful approach to regulatory stewardship. She also remains actively engaged in cultural preservation and Cherokee language initiatives, demonstrating an enduring commitment to the Nation’s economic resilience and cultural continuity.
